Live at Carnegie Hall is a live album by the British progressive rock group Renaissance. It was recorded in June 1975 in New York's Carnegie Hall and released in 1976.

Formation

On three consecutive evenings ( June 20 to 22 ) Renaissance played a sold-out Carnegie Hall. The songs played were from the previous three albums, as well Ocean Gipsy and the suite Scheherazade - Song of Scheherazade later - by this time not yet released album Scheherazade and Other Stories With the exception of the song Ashes Are Burning the band was supported by the New York supports Philharmonic under the direction of Tony Cox. Tony Cox also wrote the orchestral arrangements for Scheherazade and Other Stories. This may also be the reason that the two new songs which are almost identical to the studio album shortly thereafter published and only the old ones were re-edited, especially Ashes are Burning with extended solos by John Tout on piano and John Camp on bass. Concerts at Carnegie Hall were among the most ambitious undertakings in the progressive rock boom of the 1970s.

Reception

Bruce Eder of Allmusic considers Live at Carnegie Hall for a good live presentation of the group and the fourth great album in a row. He criticized the sound quality of that LP release, which have been largely eliminated in the remastered CD of 1994. He gave the album four out of five stars.
