The Renault R26 is the 17th Formula 1 racing cars from Renault and came in all 18 races of the Formula 1 2006 season. The transmission and the RS26 V8 engine are proprietary designs of Renault.
Technology and Development
According to the regulation changes for the 2006 season, the new race car was first driven by the new 8- cylinder engines with a maximum of 2.4-liter displacement, and not by the 10-cylinder engines with 3.0 - liter engine from the previous years.

Course of the season
In the first half of the season the team scored seven Grand Prix wins and six pole positions and been able to establish a lead therefore in the drivers' and constructors standings. The second half of the season was dominated primarily by Ferrari.
Fernando Alonso was as in the previous driver Champion ( 134 points ), Renault ( 206 points ) was able to successfully defend the constructors' title.
