The Toro Rosso STR1 is the first Formula 1 race cars of the Scuderia Toro Rosso. He was inducted into the Formula 1 2006 season, an engine supplier Cosworth was. On 11 March 2006 he was presented at the Bahrain International Circuit to the public.
The Italian Vitantonio Liuzzi and American Scott Speed were the two drivers of STR1. Liuzzi was mostly the faster riders. Although both were often involved in accidents and made mistakes, the manager Gerhard Berger was happy with their performance.
Engine supplier Cosworth for 2006 was, therefore, the partnership with the British engine manufacturer was acquired by Minardi. Although the regulations from 2006 saw basically a restriction on eight-cylinder engines with 2.4 liters of displacement (see Formula 1 rules). By way of derogation, however, Toro Rosso could continue to use the previous, 3.0-liter ten-cylinder engines. To gain Toro Rosso has no advantage over the other teams, the engines had to have a speed limit of 16,700 trips. In addition, an air restrictor had to be used.
The Toro Rosso STR1 is painted in dark blue color. Due to the sponsors logos of Red Bull has the STR1 shades of red.
The team eventually finished the season in ninth place in the Constructors' Championship with a dot.
