Renée Fleming

Renée Fleming ( born February 14, 1959 in Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA) is an American soprano and one of the world's leading opera singers.

Life

Renée Fleming, whose parents both worked as a singing teacher, spent her childhood in Rochester, New York. Her first vocal training she received at the Crane School of Music at the State University of New York ( SUNY ) at Potsdam, where her important input from the voice teacher Patricia Mifflin were given. During her studies at SUNY Potsdam, she sang with a jazz trio at a bar called Alger 's. From 1983 to 1987, she has studied at the Eastman School of Music and the Juilliard School in New York.

Her debut was in 1986 as Konstanze in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's The Abduction from the Seraglio at the Salzburg State Theater. The breakthrough came in 1988 Renée Fleming as the Countess in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro at the Houston Grand Opera. In the first phase of her career, she won major prizes, including the Metropolitan Opera National Auditions, the Richard Tucker Award, the George London Prize, the Grand Prix at the International Vocal Competition in Belgium, and a Fulbright Fellowship.

In the season 1993/94 she made her role debut as Desdemona in Verdi's Otello, as well as Ellen Orford in Britten 's Peter Grimes at the Metropolitan Opera. In summer 1994, she made her debut as the Countess in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro at the Glyndebourne Festival.

Fleming is among others at the Vienna State Opera, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, La Scala in Milan, at the Opéra Bastille in Paris and occurred at New York's Metropolitan Opera. Alone by the year 2008, she has sung 51 different lots.

The Artists Musical America led the soprano 1997 Vocalist of the Year, 1996, she was awarded the Solti Prize from the Académie du Disque Lyrique French. Fleming ever received a Grammy Award for Best Classical Vocal Performance category for the album The Beautiful Voice - Works of Charpentier, Gounod, Massenet & Flotow (1998) and for the album Bel canto - Bellini, Donizetti, Rossini & ( 2002). 2008 Fleming was awarded the Polar Music Prize.

In the film adaptation of The Lord of the Rings Renée Fleming took some composed by Howard Shore solo vocal parts, as, inter alia, the piece Twilight and Shadow.

In 2012 she was awarded the Echo Klassik German music award in the category Singer of the Year with her album Ravel, Messiaen, Dutilleux: Poèmes published by Decca / Universal. In 2013 she was elected a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

By 1998, Fleming was married to actor Rick Ross, with whom she has two daughters. Since 2011 she lives in a second marriage with the attorney Tim Jessel.
