Réseau express régional

Réseau Express Régional ( RER short, German as " Regional Express ( train ) network " ) is in French-speaking countries, the usual term for S -Bahn -like suburban railway transport systems. The first RER system was introduced in the Paris region (see Réseau express régional d' Ile- de -France ). The first two lines (A and B, 1977) are from the local public transport company RATP (metro) and the state railway SNCF operated together, the later lines C, D and E only by the SNCF.

Heavily used Bähnhofe the Paris RER

All other stations have less than 10 million passengers.

RER systems outside of Paris

More RER systems exist in other French cities as well as in the Francophone Switzerland (for example, the S-Bahn Léman ). For the Belgian capital Brussels, the SNCB / NMBS is also planning a RER system (see Gewestelijk ExpresNet / Réseau Express Régional ( Brussels) ).
