Rey Mysterio

Óscar Gutiérrez ( born December 11, 1974 in San Diego, California), better known by his ring name Rey Mysterio, is an American professional wrestler of Mexican descent. He is now under contract with WWE and appears regularly in their wrestling shows.

Its low height of only 1.67 m and weight of 79 kg are not typical for the wrestling. His trademark is the mask he wears at every match and has a solid tradition in the Mexican wrestlers.

Career

Mexico, ECW and WCW

Gutiérrez was trained by his uncle, the wrestler Rey Mysterio Sr. in wrestling. He made his debut at age 14 in Tijuana, Mexico, as Gutiérrez could acquire no license due to his young age in the United States. From his uncle he took over the ring name and the mask. The ring name added Jr. to Rubio still adding to beat so a bridge to his uncle.

He moved in 1995 to Extreme Championship Wrestling and made his first ring experience here in the U.S.. After a short time he moved on to WCW, where he was unmasked as part of the storyline by Scott Hall and Kevin Nash in 1999.

Gutiérrez has 5 securities held in the WCW record holder of the WWE Cruiserweight Championship, which he has, even after the takeover by the WWE, won three more times for a total of eight times. In 2001, he was provisionally back to Mexico, where he, however, according to the local traditions, took unmasked by the WCW loss of his mask.

Since 2002 he has been active in the United States for World Wrestling Entertainment ( WWE now ). Gutiérrez was built there an audience favorite.

In January 2006 he won the Royal Rumble. It was followed by his greatest success at WrestleMania 22 on April 2 of the same year in which he won the World Heavyweight Championship in a Triple Threat match against Kurt Angle and Randy Orton. These Gutiérrez has also won a total of three times the WWE Cruiserweight title four times and together with Edge, Rob Van Dam, Eddie Guerrero and Batista held the tag team titles. On July 23, 2006 Gutiérrez the world heavyweight title lost to King Booker.

After several injury breaks, he came back in June 2008 and moved it to Monday broadcast RAW. There he began a feud with Kane program and was subsequently involved in the events surrounding the WWE Intercontinental title, which he won on 5 April 2009 at WrestleMania 25 against JBL.

The WWE Draft 2009 Gutiérrez moved back to SmackDown. On 7 June 2009 at Extreme Rules he lost the title to Chris Jericho. at The Bash on June 28, 2009, he won back the title. On September 1, 2009, he lost that title to John Morrison. The background was that he was suspended because of a violation of the so-called wellness programs, drug and drug regulation of the WWE, for 30 days.

At Fatal 4 Way PPV 21 June 2010 Gutiérrez was the second time World Heavyweight Champion, after which he sat down by Punk in a match against Jack Swagger, The Big Show and CM. In Money In The Bank, however, he lost the title to Kane, as this cashed his " Money in the Bank briefcase ."

On 25 April 2011, he has been changed by the WWE Draft 2011 into the RAW roster. In a tournament Gutiérrez won on 25 July 2011, the vacant WWE Championship. He defeated first on 18 July 2011 at the quarter-final Dolph Ziggler and R-Truth in the semifinals. In the final on 25 July, he won against The Miz. Gutierrez lost the title at the same event in John Cena. He paused due to a knee injury. On April 26, 2012 Gutiérrez was suspended for his second violation of the WWE Wellness Program for 60 days. On 16 July 2012, he returned.

Wrestling style

Due to its low height and weight Gutiérrez must be very fast and spectacular looking actions in the ring, such as his trademark called 619, show to win the audience's interest and maintain the credibility. But this is precisely the danger, because it is precisely this high-flying action pose a special risk of injury.

  • In an interview, Gutierrez said he has about 100 different masks, all of which are associated with a corresponding ring outfit.

Family

Gutierrez is married and has two children, whose names he has tattooed on the inside of his upper arms. He is the nephew of Rey Misterio Sr. and Super Astro and cousin of El Hijo Rey Mysterio and Metalika.
