Rhaetian Railway Ge 3/3

The Ge 3/3 is a three-axis electric shunting locomotive of the Rhaetian Railway (RhB).

History

In the RhB in the early 1980s showed a shortage of shunting, as the converted and almost 70 - year history 2/4 by age were always more susceptible to interference due. Also filed its performance no longer be able to work economically. The RhB therefore decided to purchase simultaneously with the appointment of the second series of the Ge 4 /4 II two modern and efficient shunting.

The two machines with numbers 214 and 215 were put into operation in 1984.

Technology

Since we had made 4/4 II good experience in the first series of Ge, it was decided to build the two shunting locomotives also using thyristor. The thyristors diodes together with a continuously controllable rectifier which supplies the dc series motor with wavy DC.

The mechanical part was built by Robert Aebi ( RACO ). The electrical part dates same as in the Ge 4 /4 II by BBC. Some components of the vehicles - for example, traction motor, compressor and vacuum pump - coincide with the corresponding components of the second series Ge 4 /4 II.

Use

The orange painted locomotives is 40 km / h and 33 t heavy. Your hourly output is 425 kW at 27 km / h They are used for shunting: Lok 214 in Chur and 215 in Samedan.
