Rheurdt

The community Rheurdt [ ʁøɐt ] lies in the Lower Rhine in the west of North Rhine -Westphalia and is a municipality belonging to a county district of Kleve in the district of Dusseldorf.

Geography

Spatial location

Rheurdt is on the left bank of the Rhine in the Rhine lowlands. Rheurdt is 30 to 80 m above sea level. NN. Through the municipal area, the flow Nenneper Fleuth, the Littardsche Kendel and the Landwehr Bach. In a north-south direction, the Schaephuysener heights, run a terminal moraine from the Saale glaciation.

Municipality

The municipal area has 30 km ². The community Rheurdt divided into two villages Rheurdt and Schaephuysen (pronounced Schaphüsen ). The community of Rheurdt belongs to the district of Kengen to Schaephuysen includes the hamlets of Finkenberg, Lind, and Neufeld Saelhuysen (pronounced Saalhüsen ).

The community Rheurdt bordered to the north on the community of Issum, on the east by the cities of Kamp- Lintfort and Neukirchen (both Wesel ), in the south on the town Kempen ( Viersen ) and in the west on the community Kerken.

History

The community Rheurdt was first mentioned in 1294 as Rurde or Rorde. Until 1713 the individual municipalities and villages Rheurdts belonged to the duchy of Guelders, then came to Prussia and stood from 1798 to 1814 under French rule. After the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the associated villages came to the circle Rheinberg, which in 1823 united with the county funds. This association was reversed in 1857 and moved the seat of the circle to Moers.

Territorial reform

The community Rheurdt emerged in its present form 1 July 1969, the first municipal restructuring program in North Rhine -Westphalia. The communities Rheurdt and Schaephuysen merged to form the new municipality Rheurdt.

On 1 January 1975, the old district of Kleve was merged with the former county funds and sub-areas of the circles Moers and Rees as the new Lower Rhine Kreis Kleve United during the second restructuring program in North Rhine -Westphalia.

Policy

Parish council

The Council of the Municipality Rheurdt consists of 22 members. Since the last municipal election on 30 August 2009, the council CDU ( 45.1 %, 10 seats), SPD ( 24.3 %, 5 seats), the FDP ( 15.7%, 4 seats ) and Green ( 14.9 %, 3 seats) represented.

The next municipal election will be held in 2014.

Mayor

For Mayor of Rheurdt 2009 Klaus Kuhnen little (CDU ) was re-elected with 78.5 % of votes.

The next mayoral election will take place in 2015.

Crest and Banner

The community Rheurdt was issued with the certificate of the provincial government in Dusseldorf from 11 August 1970, the license to run a coat of arms, a seal and a banner.

The heraldic description is: " Azure, a silver stag's head with a floating golden cross between the antlers; in chief beam, three golden apples. "

The coat of arms was designed by the municipal reorganization in 1969 and combines elements of Rheurdter parish patron St. Nicholas, the golden apples, with the legend of Schaephuysener parish patron St. Hubertus. The colors of gold and blue are the Duchy of Geldern.

Banner Description: In the ratio 1: 2: 1 blue and gold (yellow) - blue vertical stripes, the upper third in Blue detached a silver (white ) deer head in sight floating golden ( yellow ) cross between its antlers, about bar -setting three golden ( yellow ) apples.

Sports

Rheurdt has an equestrian center, an indoor swimming pool ( swimmers and non-swimmers ), two sports fields ( Rheurdt and Schaephuysen ), a tennis court, two gyms ( Rheurdt and Schaephuysen ) and a sports Schützenbahn.

Parks

The Burger Park is a public green space in the heart Rheurdts which is right next to the Catholic Church and will be held on the traditional Easter fire, the fire Martin and, most recently, the annual bird shooting the shooter. Furthermore, it is used for other special events of various clubs. For some years there is also the club Rheurdter tree.

Oermter mountain

The Oermter mountain is one of the largest terminal moraines in the lower Rhine. Today it is a popular destination and recreational area. Until the 16th century the mountain was even used as a wine -growing region from the nearby monastery Kamp. However, the wine is said to have served only as a communion wine. There is also the public meeting, in which the " natural history collection Niederrhein " is issued.

Others

In the territory of the municipality lies Rheurdt Nature Reserve State Forest Rheurdt / Littard and the Leyenburg Castle, the former country seat of the family von der Leyen.

Traffic

Bus

Within the municipal territory and in the adjacent municipalities of driving bus lines, which compounds, including by Neukirchen and continue to offer to Moers.

Rail traffic

The nearest railway station is in Aldekerk. The line passing through Rheurdt railway Moers - Neukirchen - Hoerstgen - Sevelen has been decommissioned and is currently operating only on the Moers- Vluyn portion which is reactivated for freight services since April 2008.

Road

Rheurdt is connected through the federal highways 9 and 510 as well as the federal highways 40 ( E 34 ) and 57 ( E 31 ) to the national road network.

The nearest airports are Dusseldorf and the Niederrhein Airport Weeze.
