Richard Kiley

Richard Kiley ( born March 31, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois, † March 5, 1999 in Warwick, New York) was an American film and theater actor.

Life

Richard Kiley, who grew up in a Roman Catholic family, attended the Barnum Dramatic School and began his career in some of Chicago brought to their performance plays. Like many other men of his generation Kiley was drafted during World War II for military service; In 1947 he then moved to New York.

But it would take six years until he was able to celebrate his Broadway debut in George Bernard Shaw's Misalliance 1953. This piece was a great success, and he was finally honored for his involvement with the Theatre World Award. He spent the next two decades a lot of time on the stage. Over the years, he won two Tony Awards, including 1966 for his performance in The Man of La Mancha.

His career as an actor, which he began in 1950, was to remain mostly limited to appearances in relatively unknown TV series. It was not until the early 1970s, he worked in larger and better-known films today. So Kiley was in 1983 in The Thorn Birds in front of the camera, and was honored in 1984 for his portrayal of Paddy Cleary with the Golden Globe. 1993 was a positive factor Kiley in his best known feature film - Jurassic Park - even though he was only present as a voiceover in a scene. Richard Kiley was married twice. He married in 1948 Mary Bellwood, and was married to her until 1967. In 1968 he appeared with Patricia Ferrier down the aisle, with whom he remained married until his death. He had six children.

Kiley himself died in 1999, shortly before his 77th birthday, from a disease of the bone marrow.
