Richard Maynard (television producer)

Richard Maynard ( born August 30, 1942 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, † January 2, 2007 in San Fernando Valley, California ) was an American writer, television producer and educator.

Life

Maynard grew up in Philadelphia and studied history and education at Temple University, where he graduated with a bachelor's and a master. He received another master's degree after studying at the University of Pennsylvania and Princeton University.

He taught in all types of schools; from high school through graduate school and for ten years at New York's The New School, where he directed the master's program in the subject media studies. He also gave lectures at Antioch College, the University of California, Los Angeles, University of California, Berkeley, and the International School of Film & Television in San Antonio Los Baños, Cuba. In the 1960s, while teaching at Simon Gratz High School, Maynard developed the curriculum for Black History of the Philadelphia School District.

Maynard fought for modern teaching methods. In 1977, he said at the Teachers College of Columbia University on the use of modern technology in the classroom: "Most teachers can not operate standard 16 mm projectors. As editorial director Maynard worked for nine years for Scholastic Publishing, and wrote articles for the Los Angeles Times, the Las Vegas Weekly and the Emmy Magazine. From 1985 to 1997 Maynard worked as a film and television producer and produced several films and television series. The movie Normal Life starring Ashley Judd and Luke Perry was presented in 1996 at the Sundance Film Festival. His recent films belonged Gold Coast (1997) with David Caruso and Marg Helgenberger.

Together with his ex-wife Lorrie Maynard he had two sons: Jeffrey Maynard, an actor and teacher, and Kevin Maynard, a television producer and writer.
