Richmond (New South Wales)

Richmond is a town of about 5,200 inhabitants in the north-west of Sydney in New South Wales, Australia. Richmond is located 60 kilometers northwest of the city center in the administrative area ( LGA) City of Hawkesbury. At an altitude of 19 meters above sea level, it is situated on the banks of the Hawkesbury River, at the foot of the Blue Mountains.

Until 1788, the area around Richmond home of the Darug, a tribe of Aborigines. Then in 1789 came the first time European settlers in this area, which was known as Richmond Hill. Named by Governor Arthur Phillip in honor of Charles Lennox, the third Duke of Richmond. In Richmond emerged with the arrival of 22 settlers in 1794, the third European settlement in Australia, after Sydney and Parramatta. In 1799, Richmond has already produced half the amount of grain throughout the colony.
