Riley 4

The models Riley 4/68 and Riley 4/72 were manufactured by the British Motor Corporation from April 1959 until the late 1960s. The bodies were identical to the models designed by Pininfarina Austin A55 / A60, MG Magnette Mark III, Morris Oxford Mark V and Wolseley 15/60. The motor corresponding to that of the MG Magnette, but with less sharp camshaft. Another related car was the Di Tella 1500 ( including Di Tella Traveller and Di Tella Argenta ), which was produced from 1959 to 1965 in Argentina.

Riley 4/68 (1959-1961)

The Riley 4/68 had the 2 carburetor BMC B- series 4-cylinder engine with 1489 cc and 66.5 bhp (49 kW). That was around 6 hp ( 4 kW) more than the Wolseley. In the two years to 1961, 10,940 units were produced.

While the Riley 4/68 in the UK replaced by the 4/72 was the production of the Argentine models Di Tella 1500, Di Tella Traveller and Di Tella Argenta even further to 1965.

Riley 4/72 and Comet

Riley 4/72 (1965)

In 1961, the car became the Riley 4/72. The engine now had 1622 cc displacement, 2 SU carburetors and 68 bhp (50 kW). It also had an improved suspension with torsion bars. The chassis had 25 mm longer wheelbase and was slightly shorter. Identical was the Wolseley 16/60, but only with 61 bhp (45 kW). The Riley 4/72 was sold in Austria as Riley Comet.

When the Riley 4/72 1969 has been set, 14,151 pieces were sold.
