Rinaldo d'Este (1655–1737)

Rinaldo d' Este, Duke of Modena ( born April 25, 1655 in Modena, † October 26, 1737 ibid ) was the youngest son of the Duke Francesco I d' Este of Modena and Reggio from his third marriage with Lucrezia Barberini.

He was born on September 2, 1686 by Pope Innocent XI. a cardinal and was on September 6, 1694 after the childless death of his nephew Francesco II d' Este as Rinaldo III. Duke of Modena and Reggio. He resigned from his ecclesiastical office and married on February 11, 1696 Charlotte Felicitas of Brunswick- Lüneburg ( * March 8, 1671; † September 29, 1710 ), daughter of Duke Johann Friedrich to secure the survival of the family.

During the Spanish War of Succession, he was expelled from his possessions on 30 July 1702, the country came under Spanish- French occupation. It was only on February 7, 1707, he received Modena and Reggio back. In 1710 he bought the Duchy of Mirandola.
