Rio Antonio Mavuba Zoda ( born March 8, 1984 to the high seas ) is a French football player. He is now the French Erstdivisionär Lille OSC under contract.

Career

His father, Mafuila Mavuba, was a Congolese football player who also took part in the Football World Cup in 1974; his mother was Angolan. Both parents died before Rios 's fourteenth birthday. Rio Mavuba was born on a boat in international waters off the coast of Angola during the Angolan civil war.

Rio Mavuba, which is compared with Jean Tigana to his playing days, played since the age of seven at Bordeaux; In 2003, he signed a professional contract. For the season 2007/ 08 Mavuba changed for 8 million euros to the Spanish club Villarreal.

On 22 January 2008 until summer Mavuba was loaned to the French first division club Lille OSC. He convinced there and then moved up firmly for 7 million euros to the club from northern France. Rio Mavuba signed a contract until 2012, which he extended on 21 February 2011 again until the summer of 2015. On December 8, 2013 Mavuba completed his 200th league appearance for OSC Lille.

His debut in the French national team, he was on 18 August 2004 against the team of Bosnia and Herzegovina; the game ended 1-1. The defensive midfielder was also captain of the French U-21 national team.
