Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles

Rivière -des- Prairies - Pointe- aux- Trembles is one of 19 arrondissements of the city of Montreal in the Canadian province of Québec. In 2011, the 42.3 km ² large city district counted 106 437 inhabitants.

Geography

Rivière -des- Prairies - Pointe- aux- Trembles is located on the northern tip of the Ile de Montréal, Rivière des Prairies between the west and the St. Lawrence River in the east. The two main settlements of the district, Rivière -des- Prairies and Pointe- aux- Trembles, are not grown together, but clearly separated from each other by fields, scattered forests and other open spaces. Adjacent arrondissements the city of Montreal are Montréal-Nord in the southwest and Anjou in the south. In the southeast of the district borders the autonomous community Montréal- Est.

History

Both Rivière -des- Prairies and Pointe- aux- Trembles from 1845 onwards were independent communities. 1963 and 1982, they merged with Montreal. During the next two decades, the district formed an exclave, as four more municipalities were in between. After further mergers belonged from 2002 to Montréal -Est arrondissement.
