Robert Methuen, 7th Baron Methuen

Robert Alexander Holt Methuen, 7th Baron Methuen ( born July 22, 1931) is a British House of Lords Member of Parliament ( Liberal Democrat ) in the United Kingdom.

Family

Robert Methuen is the third and youngest son of Anthony Methuen, 5th Baron Methuen and his wife Grace Durning, daughter of Sir Richard Durning Holt, 1st Baronet.

He married in first marriage in 1958 Mary Catherine Jane Hooper. A year after the marriage ended in divorce in 1993, he married Margrit Andrea Hadwiger. From the first marriage two daughters have emerged. Since he has no male offspring, the expected heir ( Heir Presumptive ) is his cousin James Paul Archibald Methuen -Campbell ( born 1952 ).

Life

He attended Shrewsbury School and then studied at Trinity College ( Cambridge ). He graduated in 1957 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) as an engineer from. After graduating, he worked as an engineer from 1957 to 1967 for Westinghouse Brake and Signal Company, and then from 1968 to 1975 as a computer systems engineer at IBM UK Ltd and 1975-1994 for Rolls- Royce plc.

Policy

After his brother Anthony Methuen, 6th Baron Methuen 's death in 1994 ( the other brother Anthony Richard Paul Methuen had already died at age eleven ), he inherited the title of Baron Methuen and the seat in the upper house. In Parliament he was a member of the Science and Technology Select Committee and other committees. He is one of the 90 hereditary peers who were allowed to remain in office in 1999 after the enactment of the House of Lords Act.
