Robert Perloff

Robert Perloff ( born February 3, 1921 in Philadelphia, † April 15, 2013 in Pittsburgh ) was an American professor of Business Administration ( Business Administration) and psychology.

Life

Robert Perloff grew up in Philadelphia and fought in World War II in the Philippines. After his return, he completed his studies in 1949 at Temple University in Philadelphia and received his doctorate in psychology at Ohio State University. Later he taught industrial and consumer psychology at Purdue University.

He spent most of his career in 1969 as a professor of business and psychology at the Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh.

Robert Perloffs scientific interests were organizational studies, program evaluation, consumer behavior, and General Psychology.

He also served as president of the Association for Consumer Research and the American Psychological Association ( 1985-1986). His address as APA president in 1985 was in the American Psychologist ( vol. 42, 1987) printed and referred to as one of the 50 classic articles in the past 50 years. Perloff said among other things:

Perloff was one of the 52 signatories of the essay Mainstream Science on Intelligence, written by Linda Gottfredson and published in December 1994 by the Wall Street Journal.

In 1996 he was part of a task force that examined regarding controversial issues, race and intelligence and the report " Intelligence Knowns and Unknowns " (intelligence, both familiar and unfamiliar ) issued. Perloff is variously occurred vigorously for a review of the current peer review process.

In 2000, Perloff was honored by the American Psychological Foundation with the Gold Medal Award for Life Time Achievement in Psychology in the Public Interest. At the ceremony Perloff was recognized for his "love of social justice" and his lifelong fight for " the rights and dignity of women, minorities and homosexuals ." He is one of the seventeen psychologists, that of Robert Sternberg in his book Psychologists Defying the Crowd ( psychologists who disagree with the amount ) are described.

Robert Perloff vigorously defended the legitimacy of conversion therapy for homosexuals. On the APA Annual Conference 2001, he condemned the unilateral, in his view political agenda of the APA and said regarding conversion therapies homosexual:

Similarly, in 2004 he moved into position at the NARTH conference.

Perloff has published over 400 publications, reviews, comments and presentations at universities and conferences.
