Robert Powell

Robert Powell ( born June 1, 1944 in Salford, Greater Manchester ) is a British actor.

Life

Powell attended the Manchester Grammar School. At 20 he began his acting career while he still attended the University of Manchester. In 1967 his film debut in Peter Yates Robbery, and 2 years later, the first starring role followed in Peter Collinson's Charlie million from dust.

On August 29, 1975 married Barbara Powell Lord, with whom he is married to this day. They have two children, Barney ( born November 23, 1977) and Kate ( b. 1979 ).

The international fame came when he took the 1977 title role in Franco Zeffirelli's Jesus of Nazareth, a role which was a challenge for the 33 -year-olds. In order to prepare for it, he retired several months before shooting began in a monastery back to represent the peace and serenity of Christ credible.

Producer Lew Grade even demanded that Robert should get a divorce from his wife, as also Christ was single, Robert however, refused.

First it was Ian McShane, who was to represent Jesus, Robert Powell Judas should embody. But after a few scenes that were already shot, found Franco Zeffirelli: "If Judas would have had such eyes, which presence would have only had Christ. " The roles were exchanged.

In 1981, he starred as Captain Keller in the Australian mystery thriller " The Survivor ".

Powell has never packed the desire to go to Hollywood, he wanted to stay in the UK. Here he turned in recent decades mainly detective novels and thrillers, in which he played the " villain ".
