Shaka Zulu (TV series)

Shaka Zulu is a Drama-/Historienserie by director William C. Faure, which was after a literary work of the same title by Joshua Sinclair, rotated. The British-American mini-series for the South African South African Broadcasting Corporation ( SABC ) was produced in 1986. Was shot among other things on location in South Africa. Even Australia, Germany and Italy were involved in this production.

Action

The plot, which relies partly on the oral history of the Zulu, revolves around the main character, Shaka Zulu, played by Henry Cele. Shaka is the ruler of the Zulu people and brings the expansion of the kingdom of Zululand from 1816 forward to 1828, where he met with little enthusiasm by the British colonial rulers in Cape Town.

Background

Shaka is today one of the most famous characters from the African history. For the Zulu he remains a national hero: In every September they celebrate the " King Shaka Day", which will be celebrated with a ceremony at the monument near the place of death of Shaka in Stanger. In the ideology of Inkatha, the South African Zulu party, he takes as the founder of the nation a central role.

The series was controversial because it was filmed in South African locales, while the former apartheid regime was still boycotted worldwide. Thus, the participating British actor would have been almost put on a black list of the United Nations.

" Shaka Zulu " was broadcast in Germany from October to December 1986 by the ZDF, 1996 by the Berlin local station Puls TV and several times since 2002 in Premiere series.

The song sung " Shaka Zulu Theme" ( We Are Growing ) by Margaret Singana was not released on DVD, which is published only in 2004 in the UK. The release of the DVD age is 15 years. The series in Germany by Polyband was published in a heavily edited version on January 30, 2009, and received the Rating FSK 12
