Robert Stephens

Sir Robert Stephens (* July 14, 1931 in Bristol, Somerset, England; † August 12, 1995 in London, England ) was a British film and stage actor.

Life

Stephens was a Shakespearean actor, nicknamed traveler Knight gave himself. He was regarded by Laurence Olivier as the most famous stage actor in England and was, among other things in Hamlet to Nothing and Henry V, Much Ado to see on stage. For the latter play, he was awarded the Laurence Olivier Award in 1993. Also in numerous feature films and television series he worked with.

Stephens was married four times. During its first two women, Nora Ann Simmonds and Tarn Bassett, did not work in show business, are the third, Maggie Smith and fourth wife Patricia Quinn known. By Maggie Smith Stephens father of two actors Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin.

Robert Stephens, who was an alcoholic in the last years of his life, died at the age of 64 of complications from an operation on his liver.

In spring 1995, a few months before his death, struck him Queen Elizabeth II knighted.
