Robert Trimble

Robert Trimble (* November 17, 1776 in Berkeley County, Virginia; † August 25, 1828 in Paris, Kentucky ) was an American lawyer and judge of the Supreme Court of the United States.

Trimble was born in what is now West Virginia, the son of William Trimble and Mary McMillan. In his early childhood, his family moved to Kentucky, where they settled near the town of Boonesborough.

Trimble studied law at the Transylvania University at George Nicholas and James Brown. He received in 1803 admitted to the bar. In the same year he was elected to the House of Representatives from Kentucky. However, this mandate, he was already back to 1804 and began its operations as a lawyer again, in which he was very successful. From 1807 to 1809 he served as a judge at the Kentucky Court of Appeals. From 1813 to 1817 he was attorney general for Kentucky.

In 1817 the appointment of a judge of the Federal District Court for Kentucky was. There he remained until 9 May 1826 This day he succeeds Thomas Todd of the Supreme Court. ; a month before he was nominated by President John Quincy Adams for this post.

After his sudden death in 1828, he was buried in Paris, Kentucky; his successor at the Supreme Court was John McLean. The Trimble County is named for Robert Trimble. He was married to Nancy Timberlake and had six children.
