Roccatederighi

Roccatederighi is a hamlet of Rocca Strada in the province of Grosseto, Tuscany region of Italy. It has 461 inhabitants ( as at 31 December 2012)

Geography

The place is located 7 km west of the capital Rocca Strada, 30 km north of the provincial capital Grosseto, 80 km south of the regional capital Florence and 38 km south-west of Siena. The place is located in the countryside of the Maremma and the Metalliferous Hills at 535 meters above sea level.

The place is divided into five Contraden: Corso, Nobili, Torre, Tramonto and Ventosa. The sixth Contrada Tufolino is now part of the Contrada Torre.

History

Roccatederighi was documented as Nossina Rocca ( ​​Rocca also Norsina ) for the first time on August 29, 1110. It was a long time under the Count Tederighi (also Tederigi ), allies of Aldobrandeschi, and had its heyday in the 13th century, when the name was changed in 1239 in Roccatederighi. From 1323 the town belonged definitively to Siena. From 1368 to 1404 the family of the Salimbeni in Siena Lord was about the place, after which case the councilors of Siena ruled again. The first statutes of the place arose two years later and were reformed in 1452. In the conflict between Siena and Florence, the town was almost completely destroyed in 1553 and fell to Florence, the Sienna could take until 1555. 1618 awarded Cosimo II de ' Medici the place as a fief to the Malaspina di Mulazzo.

Attractions

• Chiesa di San Martino Vescovo, mentioned already in the 10th century church in the historic center. 1489 was renewed and contains the work of Madonna col Bambino e Sant'Agostino, probably painted by a pupil of Vincenzo Rustici.
• Chiesa di San Sebastiano, which is below the fortress church, which was built in the 16th century and was restored in 1860. The work of SS Sebastiano e Fabiano is attributed to the environment of Ilario Casolani.
• Clocktower, 1911 incurred clock tower, which was created for the 50th anniversary of the Italian unification.

Sports

• It is now one of the few places where even Palla eh! is played.

Events

• Palio Storico dei Ciuchi, Palio, which is discharged with donkeys. Was first held on August 14, 1295 as Giostra dei Sestrieri con Palio among the six Contraden ( Sestieri ). Has been held since 1947 between the now -turned- five Contraden. Up to the 1970s, the Palio was held on each place on 14 September and was then postponed to August 14.
