Roche-et-Raucourt

Roche- et- Raucourt is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Roche- et- Raucourt situated at an altitude of 212 m above sea level, 7 km north-northeast of Dampierre- sur-Salon and about 49 km northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The double municipality extends to the west of the department, in the northwest of the plateau landscape Saônetals, in the Talniederung both sides of the Vannon.

The area of ​​13.38 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the region of the plateau north of the Saônetals. From northwest to southeast, the area is crossed by the Talniederung of Vannon, which provides for drainage Saône. The flood plain, by the meanders of the river is, on average, 210 meters and has a maximum width of one kilometer. The valley is flanked on both sides by a plateau, which reaches an average height of 240 m. This plateau consists of an alternation of calcareous and sandy- marly sediments of the middle and upper Jurassic period. On the plateau dominates agricultural use, but there are larger areas of forest, particularly in the town limits. To the south of the municipality floor extends into the Bois de Roche, part of the vast forest area of the Forêt de Dampierre. North of the Vannon valley extends the plateau of Roche. This is achieved on the hill of Champ Gauffard with 264 m the highest elevation of Roche- et- Raucourt. Further north, the area extends into the Valley of the Bonde ( left tributary of the Vannon ) and up to the edge of the Bois de Fouvent.

The double municipality consists of the following districts:

  • Roche ( 212 m) in the valley of Vannon
  • Raucourt (224 m) in the valley of Bonde

Neighboring communities of Roche- et- Raucourt are Fran Court in the north, Volon in the east, Brotte- lès -Ray, Vaite and Dampierre- sur-Salon in the South and Fouvent -Saint- Andoche in the West.

History

A burial ground from the Merovingian time points to an early settlement of the area. In the Middle Ages belonged to Roche and Raucourt the Franche-Comté and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local rule had always been held by the Lords of Fouvent. During the Thirty Years' War in 1636 the villages were severely affected. Until 1790 Roche was with Fouvent to Champagne. In 1806 merged Roche (1800: 426 inhabitants) and Raucourt (1800: 105 inhabitants ) for double municipality. Today Roche- et- Raucourt is a member of the comprehensive 42 villages municipal association Communauté de communes des Quatre Rivières.

Attractions

In Roche, the church Saint- Didier, which was rebuilt in 1765 and 1862 is completely restored. It is classified as a monument historique. For the rich interior include the main altar and statuary from the 17th century. Outside the town is the chapel of Notre- Dame-des- Malades of 1729th Additional points of Roche include the round fountain Fontaine Saint- Didier, the stone bridge over the Vannon and Lavoir that once served as a laundry and watering cattle.

Raucourt has two chapels: the Chapel Saint -Claude and the Chapel of Saint -Roch (both 16th century). The former seat of power of the Grachaux family with square tower dates from the 15th century was used as a farm after the revolution until 1987 and is now privately owned.

Population

With 149 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Roche- et- Raucourt is one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 507 persons were still counted ), only relatively small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1980s.

Economy and infrastructure

Roche- et- Raucourt was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses, especially in the sectors of wood processing and construction. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes near a secondary road that leads from Vaite after Pierrecourt. Further road links exist with Fouvent, La Roche- Morey, Fran Court, Brotte -lès- Ray and Dampierre- sur-Salon.
