Volon

Volon is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Volon situated at an altitude of 213 m above sea level, 8 km north- northeast of Dampierre- sur-Salon and about 48 km northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the west of the department, in the northwest of the plateau landscape Saônetals, in the valley of Bonde.

The area of ​​5.75 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the region of the plateau north of the Saônetals. From north to south the area is crossed by the Talniederung the Bonde, which provides for the drainage via the Vannon Saône. The flood plain is, on average, 210 meters and has a maximum width of 500 m. The valley is flanked on both sides by a plateau, which reaches an average height of 240 m. This plateau consists of an alternation of calcareous and sandy- marly sediments of the middle and upper Jurassic period. The plateau is divided by various depressions that open up to the Valley of Bonde. In the Talniederung and on the plateau dominates agricultural use, but there are larger areas of forest, particularly in the town limits. In the west of the municipality floor extends to the height of the Champ de Fontaine (246 m). To the east extends the area in the Grove of the Bois du Grand Parc, to the northeast in the Bois de Volon. With 262 m find the highest mountains of Volon is achieved.

Neighboring communities of Volon are Fran Court in the north, and Renaucourt Lavoncourt in the east, Brotte -lès- Ray in the south and Roche- et- Raucourt in the West.

History

Volon is mentioned as Voslun, Voslon, Volam, Voulons and Voulon. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local rule had always been held by the Lords of Fouvent, which gave the place a noble family fief, which took the name Volon. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Volon is a member of the 42 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes des Quatre Rivières.

Attractions

The single-nave church of Notre -Dame de l' Assomption built in the 18th century. For the rich interior of the high altar ( 18th century), a wooden crucifix from the 16th century, statues belong to the 17th century. In the village there are several Calvaires from the 19th century. From the 18th century the castle in the center comes ( now privately owned ) with its ornaments on the door arch.

Population

With 66 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Volon one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. During the 20th century, the population increased by a total clear from (1886 were still 153 persons counted ). Since the early 1980s, however, a slight population growth was recorded again.

Economy and infrastructure

Volon is still a predominantly by agriculture ( farming, viticulture, fruit growing and cattle breeding ) embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in town. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Membrey to La Roche- Morey. Further road links exist with Roche, Fran Court, Renaucourt and Lavoncourt.
