Rodney Atkinson

Rodney Eric Bainbridge Atkinson ( born 1948 ) is an English economist, journalist and politician.

Life

Atkinson was born the eldest of four children of a farmer and entrepreneur family in County Durham. His youngest brother is the comedian Rowan Atkinson.

He studied economics, German and Scandinavian Studies at the University of Durham and the Newcastle University. Mid -1970s, he was a lecturer at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Later he worked as a merchant banker in the City of London and worked as an advisor to the government under Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

In 1994 he founded The Campaign for United Kingdom Conservativism. In the 1997 General Election he stood as a candidate for the eurosceptic Referendum Party, which strove for a referendum on leaving the United Kingdom from the European Union. In the European elections of 1999 he was a candidate for the United Kingdom Independence Party. In 2000, he narrowly lost the election to the party presidency against the MEP Jeffrey Titford. Shortly after, Atkinson resigned from the party. He is the operator of EU-critical website Free Nations.

Rodney Atkinson wrote far more books and about 80 papers and thesis papers on the subject of political economy in Europe and Great Britain. He represents libertarian ideas on value- based conservative and challenges both left and right- left-wing extremism. He defends an exit of the United Kingdom from the EU and warns of a possible introduction of the euro in his home country. The European integration he opposes a vision of fully sovereign European nation-states, each with its own currency.
