Roger A. Pielke, Jr.

Roger A. Pielke, Jr. ( born November 2, 1968) is an American professor in the Environmental Studies Program and a Fellow of the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences ( CIRES ) in Boulder, Colorado. He was from 2001 to 2007 director of the Center for Science and Technology Policy Research at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Pielke was as a visiting professor at Oxford University at the James Martin Institute for Science and Civilization, Said Business School. He is interested in, among others, for the political aspects of science, political decision-making in uncertain situations, climate change, disaster management and international trade.

Pielke has a B. A. in Mathematics ( 1990), an M. A. in Administrative Sciences (1992 ), and a Ph.D. acquired in political science, respectively at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Prior to his academic activities, he was from 1993 to 2001, scientists at the Environmental and Societal Impacts Group of the National Center for Atmospheric Research.

Positions

Kofi Annan's book Climate Change: The Anatomy of a Silent Crisis in the Global Humanitarian Forum resolved later he described as a model of how one can lie with statistics. Pielke assumes that increased hurricane damages in no way a result of climate change are, but go back to other human factors.

His concept of " honest broker " as a task for scientists, the input from the policy, was among other things a model for Hans von Storch.

His early criticism of the Space Shuttle, which he described as still criticized uncertain and risky in 1993 became known. Shortly before the accident, the Challenger ( space shuttle ), he warned of the other incident, it was only a matter of time.

Personal

His father Roger A. Pielke senior is a renowned climatologist. Pielke himself is married and has three children.
