Roger Allers

Roger Allers (* 1949 in Rye, New York ) is an American film director, screenwriter and animator.

Life

Allers grew up in Scottsdale, California. He studied Fine Arts at Arizona State University and came to the end of his studies to the Lisberger Studios, where he worked as an animator, among others, for Sesame Street and The Electric Company. In 1978 he went with Steven Lisberger to Los Angeles, where both The Jungle Olympics were working on the film. He was also on the movie Tron, a co-production of Lisberger Studios and Walt Disney Productions, involved. Allers left Lisberger in 1980 and worked for Nelvana Studios in Canada. He 1985 he returned to Los Angeles and was hired as a storyboard developer at Disney. His first film for Disney was published in 1988 Oliver & Co. He worked as a storyboard developers on such films as The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin.

For the first time in animation led Allers The Lion King - along with Rob Minkoff - Director. He won it with Minkoff the LAFCA Award / Best Animation of the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. With Irene Mecchi he then wrote the screenplay for the musical Disney's: The Lion King, which was premiered in 1998 on Broadway. He was awarded with Mecchi 1998 Tony nomination for Best Book. The second time led Allers in the short animated film The Little Match Girl Director in 2007 and received an Oscar nomination in the category " Best Animated Short Film ". After his time at Disney Allers went to Sony Pictures. He worked there as a director for the first animated film from Sony, Open Season, which was released in 2006.

Allers lives with his wife in California; the couple had two children.
