Roger Penske

Roger Penske ( born February 20, 1937 in Shaker Heights, Ohio) is an American businessman and owner of the automobile racing team Penske Racing.

Career

1958 Penske began to act with racing cars and even to race. In both he was very successful. By 1965 he was able to win some races for himself and was chosen by the magazine Sports Illustrated Driver of the Year for 1960. Penske participated in two Formula 1 races and won a NASCAR race.

After the end of his active career, Penske initially concentrated on the economic side of his racing teams and built in the years to an international business empire based on commercial vehicles and car dealerships on. From 1974 to 1976 he also a team in Formula 1.

In the U.S., he sells the subcompact Smart Daimler AG. Penske was also planning to take the car brand Saturn from General Motors. This failed because it did not succeed Penske to find an international partner for the takeover.
