Rok Petrovič

Rok Petrovich ( born February 5, 1966 in Ljubljana, † 16 September 1993 Vela Luka, Croatia) was a Yugoslavian skier.

Biography

His father was a sports psychologist from Croatia. The first success achieved Petrovich 1983 as a junior world champion in slalom in Sestriere. A little later he became one of the world's best slalom racers. During the 1985/86 season he seemed almost invincible and enthusiastic with a very aggressive driving style. This season, he won five World Cup races, finished second once (in St. Anton ) and third once ( in Geilo ). He won superior to the slalom World Cup and was the first Yugoslav who brought a crystal ball for the victory in a World Cup discipline.

However, after Petrovich could not go on from this performance. Only once he flashed his skills when he was in the slalom in Kranjska Gora Second in 1987, behind fellow countryman Bojan Križaj. In 1988, he ended his career and began studying at the Faculty of Sport, University of Ljubljana. He graduated in 1991 and continued with a Nachstudium. In the fall of 1993, shortly before the presentation of his doctoral work, he was on holiday on the Croatian island of Korcula. There, he drowned while diving.
