Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Glasgow

The Archdiocese of Glasgow (Latin: Archidioecesis Glasguensis ) is a Metropolitanerzbistum the Roman Catholic Church in Scotland, based in Glasgow. Cathedral is the St. Andrew's Cathedral in Glasgow. There is also the bishopric of Glasgow and Galloway Scottish Episcopal Church.

History

The exact date of the establishment of a bishopric in Glasgow is unknown. According to legend, the Holy mongoose ( 6th century ) is considered the first bishop. First importance was the diocese in the 12th century by King David I and Bishop John. Many bishops took high positions in the Scottish kingdom. Under Bishop William Turnbull was in 1451, the University of Glasgow are built.
