Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Hanoi
The Archdiocese of Hanoi (Latin: Archidioecesis Hanoiensis, Vietnamese: Giao Tong Phan Ha Noi ) is a location in Vietnam Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic church located in Hanoi.
History
The Archdiocese of Hanoi was built in 1659 by Pope Alexander VII of cessions of territory of the Diocese of Macao as a Vicariate Apostolic of Tonkin. On July 24, 1678 the Vicariate Apostolic of Tonkin was divided into the Apostolic Vicariate Osttonking and Westtonking. On 3 December 1924, the renamed Vicariate Apostolic Hanoi took place. The Apostolic Vicariate of Hanoi was born on November 24, 1960 by Pope John XXIII. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Venerabilium Nostrorum to an archbishopric.
Since 1976, all archbishops of Hanoi were created cardinals, so that Hanoi is considered to be traditionally associated with the cardinal bishopric.
