Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Nanking

The Archdiocese of Nanking ( Nanjing) (Latin: Archidioecesis Nanchinensis ) is a located in the People's Republic of China diocese of the Roman Catholic Church.

Forerunner of today's Archdiocese of Nanking, the 1659 founded out from the diocese of Macao Vicariate Apostolic of Nanking. With the scale-up to the diocese on April 10, 1690 gave off a part of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Beijing.

Under Pope Pius IX. it was downgraded on 21 January 1856 Apostolic Vicariate of Kiangnan. Under Pope Benedict XV. 1921 was renamed as Apostolic Vicariate of Kiangsu. On 1 May 1922, the Vicariate Apostolic of Nanking was founded. By Pope Pius XII. was raised to the archbishopric of the Vicariate Nanking on 11 April 1946.

The archdiocese assigned the suffragan bishopric of Haimen, Shanghai diocese, diocese of Suzhou and Xuzhou diocese.

Due to the political situation, the archbishopric was after the death of Paul Yu Pin in 1978, the only one recognized by the Roman Catholic Church Archbishop, until today no longer be filled.
