Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Saurímo

The Archdiocese Saurimo (Latin: Archidioecesis Saurimoensis ) is located in Angola Roman Catholic archdiocese headquartered in Saurimo.

History

Pope Paul VI. founded the bishopric Henrique de Carvalho with the Apostolic Constitution Ut apostolicum on August 10, 1975 from cessions of territory of the Diocese of Malanje and it became the Archdiocese of Luanda assumed as suffragan.

On May 16, 1979, adopted the current name. On 9 November 2001, it lost part of its territory to the diocese Dundo.

On April 12, 2011, the diocese by Pope Benedict XVI was. elevated to the rank of Metropolitanerzdiözese and their subordinates the dioceses Lwena and Dundo suffragan. The former bishop and apostolic administrator José Manuel Imbamba was appointed the first archbishop.
