Roman Catholic Diocese of Calicut

The Diocese of Calicut (Latin: Dioecesis Calicutensis ) is a Roman Catholic diocese in India. It is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Verapoly.

History

The Diocese of Calicut was set up in areas of the dioceses Coimbatore, Mangalore and Mysore on 12 June 1923. First bishop was the Jesuit Paolo Charles Perini. On December 31, 1953 came from areas to the newly erected Eparchy of Tellicherry ( Syro - Malabar ). The next territorial concessions were made in November 1998, when the Diocese of Kannur was built, and on 28 December 2013 foundation of the diocese Sultanpet.
