Roman Catholic Diocese of Chipata

The Diocese of Chipata (Latin: Dioecesis Chipatensis ) is a location in Zambia Roman Catholic diocese based in Chipata. It includes the Eastern Province of Zambia.

History

Pope Pius XI. founded the Apostolic Prefecture of Fort Jameson with the Bull Quo in Rhodesiae on 1 July 1937 of territory of the Apostolic Vicariate of Nyassa and Mpika. With the Apostolic Constitution Qui ad supremum she was raised on May 7, 1953 in the rank of Apostolic Vicariate.

With the Apostolic Constitution Cum christiana fides, it was raised on 25 April 1959 in the rank of diocese, which was the Archdiocese of Lusaka is a suffragan. The current name took it on 15 April 1968. The Bishop Medardo Joseph Mazombwe founded in 1980 the diocesan seminary, which is dedicated to Mary.
