Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Lusaka

The Archdiocese of Lusaka (Latin: Archidioecesis Lusakensis ) is a location in Zambia Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Lusaka.

History

Pope Pius XI. founded the Apostolic Prefecture of Broken Hill on July 14, 1927 from annexations of the Apostolic Prefecture Zambezi. On June 13, 1946 they took the name Lusaka Apostolic Prefecture.

With the Apostolic Constitution Si sedulis it was raised on 25 April 1959 Apostolic Vicariate. With the bull Cum christiana fides, it was raised on 10 March 1962 in the rank of Metropolitanerzbistums.

Parts of its territory it lost favor following dioceses:

  • May 25, 1936 at the Apostolic Prefecture of Victoria Falls;
  • July 1, 1937 at the Apostolic Vicariate Lwangwa;
  • January 8, 1938 at the Apostolic Prefecture Ndola;
  • March 10, 1962 to the bishopric of Monze;
  • October 29, 2011 to the bishopric of Kabwe.
