Roman Catholic Diocese of Kimberley

The Diocese of Kimberley (Latin: Dioecesis Kimberleyensis ) is a location in South Africa, Roman Catholic diocese based in Kimberley.

History

The Diocese of Kimberley was born on June 4, 1886 by Pope Leo XIII. built out of territory of the Apostolic Vicariate Cape of Good Hope, Eastern District and Natal as Apostolic Vicariate of Kimberley in Orange. On 8 May 1894, the Apostolic Vicariate of Kimberley in Orange was part of its territory from establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Basutoland.

The Apostolic Vicariate of Kimberley in Orange was renamed in 1918 in Apostolic Vicariate of Kimberley in South Africa. On November 26, 1923, the Apostolic Vicariate of Kimberley in South Africa, was part of its territory from establishing the Apostolic Prefecture Kroonstad. A further transfer of territory took place on April 9, 1948 establishing the Apostolic Vicariate of Pretoria. The Apostolic Vicariate of Kimberley in South Africa announced on January 11, 1951 from parts of its territory to the creation of the Archdiocese of Bloemfontein.

On January 11, 1951, the Apostolic Vicariate of Kimberley in South Africa was by Pope Pius XII. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Suprema Nobis to the diocese and renamed Diocese of Kimberley. It was the Archdiocese of Bloemfontein is a suffragan. On April 2, 1959, the Diocese of Kimberley gave parts of its territory establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Bechuanaland.
