Roman Catholic Diocese of Mahajanga

The Diocese of Mahajanga (Latin: Dioecesis Mahagianganus ) is a location in Madagascar Roman Catholic diocese based in Mahajanga.

History

The Diocese of Mahajanga was born on March 15, 1923 by Pope Pius XI. cessions of territory from the Apostolic Vicariate Diégo - Suarez built as Apostolic Vicariate Majunga. The Apostolic Vicariate of Majunga announced on January 8, 1931 from parts of its territory establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Morondava.

On September 14, 1955, the Apostolic Vicariate Majunga was by Pope Pius XII. raised to the bishopric. The diocese Majunga was renamed on October 28, 1989 in Diocese of Mahajanga. On October 18, 1993, the Diocese of Mahajanga were from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Port- Bergé.

The diocese is the Archdiocese of Antsiranana Majunga a suffragan.
