Roman Catholic Diocese of Polokwane

The Diocese of Polokwane (Latin: Dioecesis Polokwanensis ) is a location in South Africa, Roman Catholic diocese based in Polokwane.

History

The Diocese of Polokwane was built on December 22, 1910 by Pope Pius X. territorial concessions from the Apostolic Vicariate of the Transvaal as Apostolic Prefecture of Northern Transvaal. On 13 June 1939, the Apostolic Prefecture of Northern Transvaal by Pope Pius XII. raised to the Territorial Abbey and renamed Territorial Abbey Pietersburg. The Territorial Abbey Pietersburg announced on December 27, 1962 from parts of their territory establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Louis Trichardt.

On 15 December 1988, the Territorial Abbey Pietersburg was elevated by Pope John Paul II to the diocese and the Archdiocese of Pretoria, is a suffragan. In September 2009, the Diocese of Pietersburg was renamed the Diocese of Polokwane.
