Roman Catholic Diocese of Rio Branco

The Diocese of Rio Branco (Latin: Dioecesis Fluminis Albi Superioris ) is a located in Brazil Roman Catholic diocese based in Rio Branco in Acre state.

History

The Diocese of Rio Branco was born on October 4, 1919 by Pope Benedict XV. built out of territory of the Diocese of the Amazon as Territorialprälatur Acre e Purus and the Archdiocese of Belém do Pará assumed as suffragan. On December 10, 1926, the Territorialprälatur Acre e Purus was renamed Territorialprälatur São Peregrino Laziosi no Alto Alto Purus Acre e. The Territorialprälatur São Peregrino Laziosi no Alto Alto Purus Acre e was placed under the Archdiocese of Manaus as Suffragan on 16 February 1952. On April 26, 1958, the São Territorialprälatur Peregrino Laziosi no Alto Alto Purus Acre e was again renamed Territorialprälatur Acre e Purus.

On February 15, 1986, the Territorialprälatur Acre e Purus was elevated by Pope John Paul II to the Pontifical Bull Cum Praelaturae to the diocese and renamed the Diocese of Rio Branco.
