Romorantin-Lanthenay

Romorantin- Lanthenay is a commune with 16,908 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Loir -et -Cher in the Centre region; it is the administrative center of the District Romorantin- Lanthenay and the cantons Romorantin- Lanthenay North and Romorantin- Lanthenay -Sud.

History

The town was founded on 29 May in 1961 by the merger of the municipalities and Romorantin Lanthenay. With the merger of Romorantin Lanthenay and the community was the second largest city of the department. Romorantin was mentioned in 1196 for the first time in a document of the Count of Blois and developed a very important activity of the wool processing and cloth weaving. The last textile factory closed in 1969.
