Ron Asheton

Ronald Franklin "Ron" Asheton, Jr. ( born July 17, 1948 in Washington, DC; † January 1, 2009 in Ann Arbor, Michigan) was an American guitarist.

Life

He was a founding member and lead guitarist from 1967 to 1971, from 1972 to 1974 the bassist for the American rock band The Stooges. Together with Iggy Pop, he also wrote for the first two music albums The Stooges and Fun House, the song was added at the insistence of Iggy Pop on Raw Power to the bass. The guitar work took James Williamson.

He was also the lead guitarist of The New Order, New Race, Destroy All Monsters and Dark Carnival. He met with Gunnar Hansen ( Leatherface ) in the film mosquito. Ron Asheton was the older brother of Scott and Kathy Asheton. He was found dead at his home in Ann Arbor on January 6, 2009. According to police, he died of a heart attack probably, his body was not discovered until after several days.

Ron Asheton is listed at point 29 of Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.
