Ronald Muldrow

Ronald Muldrow ( born February 2, 1949 in Chicago, Illinois, † January 31, 2007 in Los Angeles ) was an American guitarist of soul jazz and hard bop.

Life and work

Muldrow founded his own bands already in high school. He studied jazz at Roosevelt University in Illinois (Bachelor) and furthered his studies in studio and Jazzgitar at USC Thornton School of Music (Master). He first worked with the Staple Singers and played so well with Willie Bobo, Les McCann and Dizzy Gillespie. He was especially known for his work with Eddie Harris, whom he described as his musical father and with whom he worked for more than 20 years since the end of the sixties. Were shots like That Is Why You're Overweight (1976 ) or I Need Some Money ( 1975) and toured with Ronnie Laws and Maceo Parker known. With the formation of the singer and saxophonist Dizzazz Luther Thomas he appeared in the Moers Jazz Festival. In 1992 he was again on an album by Eddie Harris ( Listen Here ). In 1996, he joined with his own bands regularly at clubs in Los Angeles, but also played at the Newport Jazz Festival.

His guitar style was influenced by the jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery, to whom he dedicated an album.
