Rosina, Slovakia

Rosina (Hungarian Harmatos - to 1907 Roszina ) is a city and a municipality in Žilina Okres of Žilinský in northern Slovakia. The population was 3,011 persons on December 31, 2009.

Geography

The municipality is located in the Žilinská kotlina ( " Žilina boiler " ) in a valley of the brook Rosinka. The village center, on the heights of 408 m nm lies, is seven kilometers away from Zilina.

History

The place is first mentioned in writing in 1341 and was until 1848 the manor of Castle Strečno.

1979-1990 was Rosina, as well as the neighboring community Visnove a district of Zilina. While in the past the inhabitants are engaged with agriculture and forestry, now a part of working in factories in Žilina.
