Rossinière is a municipality in the District de la Riviera -Pays- d'Enhaut the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. The former German name Russeneiri is no longer used today. The population has been stable for years and is 495 ( end of 2004), of which live more than 90 people in the hamlet of La Tine and two families in La Chaudanne.

Geography

The municipality borders the municipalities of Vaud of Château d'Oex in the east and Villeneuve and Veytaux in the south. In the west and north is the Canton of Fribourg. Although Rossinière is the smallest municipality in the district, but has nevertheless an area of ​​2334 ha.

The municipality consists of the village and the hamlets of La Rossinière Chaudanne and La Tine. Those who come from the Gruyère region, for the La Tine is the beginning of the Vaudois territory Pays- d'Enhaut.

History

The Grand Chalet was built in 1754 by master carpenter Joseph Geneyne for Jean- David Henchoz. Later it became a hotel in which, among other things, Victor Hugo has stayed. A family of hoteliers Devenish knew how to attract tourists from all over the world, but especially from England. 1976, it was the painter Balthasar Klossowski by Rola ( called Balthus ) bought, who lived there until the end of his days in February 2001 along with his wife Countess Setsuko.

Economy

Since ancient times, agriculture and forestry are the main pillars of the economy in the community all the more industry is entirely absent.
