Rowntree's

Under the name Rowntree 's Nestlé marketed in the UK a number of confectionery. The name goes back to the to 1988 independent manufacturer Rowntree ( 1969-1987 Rowntree Mackintosh ).

Rowntree was founded in 1862 in York ( England) by Henry Isaac Rowntree, who was then assisted from the year 1869 by his brother the philanthropist Joseph Rowntree. From Rowntree many of the well-known British sweets such as KitKat, Smarties, Aero, Fruit Pastilles, Black Magic, Lion and After Eight originate. 1969 Rowntree merged with its competitor Mackintosh ( Rolo, Munchies, Caramac, Toffo and Quality Street ) to Rowntree Mackintosh.

In the spring of 1988, two Swiss companies Nestlé and Jacobs Suchard provided a takeover battle for Rowntree plc, as the company was in 1987. The board of the company accepted on June 23, 1988 finally on this day again increased supply of Nestlé, whereupon Jacobs Suchard sold its up to that bought shares in Nestlé Rowntree on the following day.
