The Roy Hesketh Circuit was a permanent race track in Pietermaritzburg, in today's South African province of KwaZulu -Natal. The track was established in 1953 at the traditional Boxing Day, so opened the 26th of December and named after the South African racing driver Roy Hesketh.

The Roy Hesketh Circuit, based in the period, the South African Formula 1 Championship, the South African National Drivers Championship, the sports car series Springbok Series and national Formula Atlantic series. Highlight was always the Easter race, a three-day racing event. In November 1981, the line was closed and had to make way for the expansion of the suburbs Pietermaritzburg.

As of 2004, sporadic races were held here again, the operation was discontinued after civil protests in June 2010.

Track today

The southern loop of segments of Angel's Angle and Sweep after 1981 was converted into a residential and commercial area.

In 2002, the citizens' initiative Roy Hesketh Motor Racing Foundation was established for the preservation of the route. The citizens' initiative is committed to the reconstruction of a 2.5 -kilometer track complete with original boxes plants, start and finish tower and a museum. In 2008, the Roy Hesketh Foundation has 185 members. The organization bought in June 2005 for the racetrack 3,250,000 edge, and led by some motorsport event. On 12 July 2008, a motorcycle race was canceled after complaints from neighbors, and the racing finally banned in July 2010.
