Phakisa Freeway

The Phakisa Freeway is a motorsport race track in the Free State Province in South Africa.

The track with the unusual nickname " Freeway " was opened after seven months of construction in April 1999 and is located near the town of Welkom. It consists of a road course with a length of 4242 meters and a width of twelve meters and a 1.5 miles ( 2.5 km ) long tri- oval. The area has a capacity of 60,000 spectators. The word " Phakisa " means hurry up in Sotho.

In the years 1999 to 2004, the track hosted the Grand Prix of South Africa as part of the motorcycle world championship.

2014 will be held on the track for the first time one runs for Superbike and Supersport World Championship.

Was located at the same place previously a race track, the Goldfields Raceway.
