Ruby Langford Ginibi

Ruby Langford Ginibi ( born January 26, 1934 in Coraki, New South Wales; † 1, 2011 in Sydney ) was an Australian author. As members of the Aboriginal people of the Bundjalung and historian, she was primarily concerned with the history and culture of the original inhabitants of Australia.

Life

Come In the Box Ridge mission in Coraki on the northern coast of New South Wales to the world, she grew up in Bonalbo ( Kyogle Council) and attended high school in the casino. At 15, she moved to Sydney, where she worked as a seamstress. For several years she lived later as a farm worker in the area of Coonabarabran. At 17, she launched the first of their three children from the relationship with Sam Griffin to the world. From a later relationship with Gordon Campbell three other children and two from her marriage to Peter Langford, whose surname she took originate ( " Ginibi " is an honorary title of the Bundjalung ). After the separation of marriage was followed by a ninth child with Lance Marriot. In her autobiographical book Do not Take Your Love to Town, she wrote, they could also call Ruby Wagtail Big Noise Anderson Rangi Ando Heifer Andy Langford.

With the book published in 1988, Do not Take Your Love to Town, which she had written after overcoming her alcoholism, her breakthrough came as an author. She described therein her childhood and her life, the racism with which they had to deal on the basis of their origin, and the treatment by the judicial system. For this book, she was awarded the 1988 Human Rights Literary Award. This was followed by the short story collection Real Deadly and 1994 My Bundjalung People, for which she traveled to the land of their childhood and their ancestors. In the same year she was appointed by the Ministry of Culture of the Government of New South Wales Professor of History, 1995, the Chair followed at the National Museum of Australia in Canberra and in 1998 she became an honorary doctorate at La Trobe University in Melbourne. Her work, she wrote essays, poems and short stories have been estimated study materials to high schools and universities in Australia.

In recent years she was confined to a wheelchair and suffered from high blood pressure and kidney problems.
