Rudigsdorfer Switzerland
The Rudigsdorfer Switzerland is one to 350.1 m above sea level. NN high hills near Rüdigsdorf in the district of Nordhausen in Thuringia ( Germany ).
The landscape is the last intact gypsum karst area of the federal state was therefore declared by the EU to be protected heritage site and one of the smallest Schweizen in Germany. Your majority is a nature reserve.
Geography
The Rudigsdorfer Switzerland is located in the extreme southern slopes of the low mountain resin between the city of Nordhausen in the South West, whose district Krimderode in the West, Niedersachswerfen the northwest, Harzungen and New Town to the north, Buchholz in the east and the north houses the district Steigerthal in the southeast. The central villages of the sloping gently to the west and southwest landscape are the Nordhäuser Districts Rüdigsdorf and Petersdorf.
The region is one natural area to Südharzer Zechsteingürtel.

The highest elevation of the karst landscape - in many places with sinkholes - is located west of Buchholz Buchholz mountain ( 350.0 m). Other mountains and elevations are:
- Steinberg ( 327.1 m), northwest of Steigerthal
- Harzrigi ( 316.6 m), southwest of Petersdorf
- Eichenberg ( 310.7 m), southeast of Petersdorf
- Cow Mountain ( 302.7 m), south of Rüdigsdorf
- Height ( 295.5 m), south of Harzungen
- Daniel head ( 272.6 m), east of Krimderode

Waters
The Rüdigsdofer Switzerland is the headwaters of numerous small streams, such as the Roßmannsbach, the Orbach and the resin field ditch. The following rivers and streams delimit the region:
- Zorge in the West
- Kappelbach in the northwest
- Krebsbach in the East
- Helmets in the south

In the 20th century, about a third of the natural landscape was destroyed by gypsum mining. The beginning of 2005 should be resumed mining, but was prevented by rebellion of residents. There is still further reduction of the interest gypsum industry.
Nature reserve
In 1997, the 298 -hectare nature reserve between Krimderode, Rüdigsdorf and Petersdorf was reported. In World War I a Landwehr regiment in the Rudigsdorfer Switzerland was stationed.
